Chardonnay Martinborough 2006 Case (12)   ::   $240.00 240.00
Delicious aromas of white peaches and apricots enhance this rich creamy wine which shows excellent weight and persistence across the mid-palate.  There is an underlying spice and cloves complexity from the oak aging.  A wine to enjoy now or cellar until 2009.

Chardonnays are big and bold and this one is a good example.     Be brave and serve a power-packed seafood risotto or fruity pork or chicken dish.  This wine can handle it.

Winemakes notes:
The pre-harvest conditions were perfect with warm, mild temperatures.  This ensured the grapes had both good ripeness and sugar levels.  Fermented in French oak barriques for 9 months then lees aged to add texture and complexity.   Care was taken to ensure oak characters did not dominate, instead there is emphasis on purity of fruit fully expressed.

Light green/gold.  Pour clear fruit nose is lightly spiced with charming oak and a modicum of popcorn. Pure supple impact has a pear-like clarity and flavour, good intensity and firm, crunch mid-palate.  Details are subtle, well crafted to the fruit and lingering on the clear bright finish.  Classy wine, very drinkable, suitably vivacious and classy.   7/10

Wine NZ May 2006
Team Comments:  A tight mineral style of Chardonnay with some citrus and lime flavours, crisp acidity and a dry finish.
